Mobile Instrument Haiti Relief Effort

Taking part in a joint effort between Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute and Miami Children's Hospital, Mobile Instrument donated much-needed supplies and equipment to the relief effort in Haiti.

Taking part in a joint effort between Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute and Miami Children’s Hospital (Florida), Mobile Instrument donated hand held instruments, flexible scopes, rigid scopes, light sources, cameras, headlights, and 2 full sets of battery operated Stryker drills to be sent to Haiti to aid in relief efforts and the ongoing medical care of the earthquake survivors. Every department donated instruments or equipment to the cause.

The flight to Haiti carrying the donations left early January 28th, and is expected to be the first of many trips the hospitals will be making to offer aid to the earthquake survivors. Mobile is proud to be able to donate such much-needed supplies and equipment to the relief effort.

Mobile’s participation was spearheaded by Pablo and Debbie Sanchez. Pablo is a Mobile Territory Manager for Maimi, FL, and his wife Debbie serves as an OR Services Specialty representative.

For more than three years Mobile Instrument has repaired and sharpened some of Interplast’s most important surgical instruments for free! Tom Reed, Mobile Instrument’s territory manager, and Guillermo Wattley, surgical instrument specialist, have donated their time and skills to Interplast by repairing numerous needle holders and sharpening hundreds of surgical scissors, just to name a few. We want to thank Tom (pictured below right) and Guillermo (pictured below left) for their big hearts and great skills. To Mobile Instrument that makes it all possible, thank you!

Electrosurgical Instrument Insulation Tester for the Operating Room

You will prevent patient burns in the Operating Room when you use InsulScan™

Electrosurgical Instrument Insulation Tester for the Operating Room

You will prevent patient burns in the Operating Room when you use InsulScan™

Insulation failure is a reality. A microscopic pinhole in the insulation of an electrosurgical instrument will allow up to 100% of the electric current to escape and assault the tissue surrounding the surgical site. This results in patient burns, latent infections, and extended recovery times. Even single use instruments commonly reveal evidence of defective insulation.

With InsulScan™ in the O.R., this is a risk no surgeon or hospital must ever take again.

A quick check of the insulated instruments with InsulScan™ immediately prior to the case will expose any defective instruments so they can be removed and reinsulated. One last scan post-operatively will confirm for the patient’s surgical chart that no defects occurred during surgery.

Tests instruments before and after the case right in the operating room.

Wands are individually sterile wrapped and disposable to prevent cross contamination.

Reduces liability exposure for surgeon and hospital

Checks both disposable and reusable instruments.

Complies with AORN and ECRI recommendations.

Self Validating

CE certified

“. . . with liability risks for instrument malfunction equal to those for surgeon error, it would be prudent for hospitals to ensure that they have an adequate system in place for maintaining equipment and testing it for insulation degradation.
